The sacred trees of the Celtic calendar and the twenty-one lessons of the Tarot cards are connected. There are some unique graphic symbolisms between the two. This year we will experiment and study the many personality traits of the trees to enhance the lines of communication between us and the Spirit World and the specific divination and symbolism of the Tarot cards to cultivate and accomplish a positive attitude; a step-by-step process - moral, spiritual and educational.
The Tree ranks of the Celtic-Britain Calendar are considered a Ladder of Learning; a format that followed an order of ascension. A device for divination and enlightenment, to know one’s self on a different level. There is a constructed pattern of symbols that are connected to a God or Goddess with a legend or myth attached to gain knowledge, to further growth. The rituals or meditation that will accompany help influence the conscious to bring forth a positive change.
The battle received the title the “Cad Goddeu” because Gwydion, as an adolescent wizard, applied spells that meant “The Battle of the Trees.

Each of the trees of the Cad Goddeu, ‘The Battle of The Trees,’ has been assigned to one of the months of the modern year on the Celtic calendar. Their properties can be utilized. The trees give the gift of prophecy to gain confidence and develop individual style. The introduction of the essences of Goddesses, and Gods are incorporated in the lessons to help develop a sense of morality to mature, to make good decisions. The cards of the Tarot deck are a tool of the cycle of the trees that have the power to increase knowledge and intuitive ability. The seventy-eight cards offer ways to achieve personal growth.
To advance each of your abilities as a wise woman, the symbolism of the trees on the Celtic calendar, Goddesses and Gods and Tarot equivalent, went as follows:
January 21 - February 17 - The Rowan Tree, Godform Math - spiritual, fanatic, Tarot equivalent, Hierophant. Life Lesson – discover the customs of your society and prepare to conform to them.
February 18 - March 17 - The Ash Tree, Godform Gwydion, charming and egocentric, Tarot equivalent, The World. Life Lesson – to know there is a connection between yourself and every other living thing, what affects one, effects many or the all.
March 18 - April 14 - The Alder Tree, Godform Bran, ambitious and impulsive, Tarot equivalent Strength. Life Lesson – temper self with tolerance and patience despite all set backs, don’t dissipate strength through anger.
April 15 - May 12 - The Willow Tree, Godform Epona, wiser and bitter, Tarot equivalent, The Moon. Life Lesson - watch the rhythm of the moon to balance emotions that will affect surroundings.
May 13 - June 9 - The Hawthorn Tree, Godform Rhainnon, passionate and ruthless, Tarot equivalent, Judgment. Life Lesson - patience is important in the process of change.
June 10 - July 7 - The Oak Tree, Godform Belinus, fatherly and dominating, Tarot equivalent The Emperor. Life Lesson – structure by placing rules to follow, enforce guidelines so that you can live with society.
July 8 - August 4 - The Holly Tree, Godform Cu Chulain, determined and insensitive, Tarot equivalent , The Chariot. Life Lesson - be well prepared when directing personal will (energy), understand and respect others (opponents)
August 5 - September 5 - The Hazel Tree, Godform Branwen, generous and deceptive, Tarot equivalent, The High Priestess. Life Lesson - one has intuition to protect themselves as well as others.
