Fire rules the magic of candles, stars and time.
The Summer Solstice is the realization that the wheel has reached a pinnacle and is now turning toward the dark again. Take a few quiet moments on June 21st in the darkened room with a lit candle, honoring the fact that after today, the wheel has turned and the light will fractionally shorten every day, will give you a sense of peace, because change is the only thing you can count on in life. It is a time for inner connections as well, because the inner and outer communities are interwoven.
For this ritual you will need a small amount of dried herbs, a fire-and heatproof container in which to burn the herbs, and some matches.
Choose herbs that share an affinity with the Sun and fire such as bay leaves, sunflowers, basil, frankincense, or any mint plant. Verbally pay homage to the Sun-God, then light the herbs. They will burn fast and hot-and may smell wonderful! Revel in the heat and light pouring from the container and feel the way it symbolizes the quick apex and decent of the Sun on Litha.
