Communicating with the Spirits has existed for a long time, in many spiritual traditions around the world. The word ‘Channeling’’ is derived from the English word canal. It indicates that people here on Earth can open up ‘‘channels’’ of invisible vibratory interaction with the Spirits they wish to communicate with.
The word ‘‘Channeling’’ became famous in the 1980s, during what is called the New Age. The years 1970 to 1980 were very prolific from a religious and spiritual standpoint.
Although it began in the 1960s with the celebrated hippies, who popularized pacifism and spirituality, the New Age was a much richer period, giving rise to many philosophical, cultural and spiritual movements.
Unlike many parapsychological powers, which are difficult to master and often require a long period of initiation, channeling, although not meant for just anyone, is widely accessible to people of good will.
By ‘‘people of good will’’ I mean those who have positive intentions, not those who want to try channeling out of curiosity, or who have negative goals and wish to harm others by asking the Spirits to intervene.
If you have the right mental disposition, you too can become an initiate of Channeling, and use it to contact the Spirits in a fairly short time.
Although we can consider ‘Spiritualism’ to be the ancestor of Channeling, differences nevertheless do exist between these two methods for communicating with Spirits.
Spiritualism is a practice that appeared over a century ago. It enables us to contact the Spirits, notably of people who were close to us, and who are recently departed.
The practice enables the living to calm any anxieties they may have about the fate of their dearly departed loved ones, and also reassures their belief in the existence of life after death.
Spiritualism most often makes use of a psychic or clairvoyant as an intermediary, to contact departed persons or entities. Channeling, on the other hand, can be practiced alone, and enables direct contact with the Spirits.
In addition, during sessions of Spiritualism the questions asked by the living, as well as the answers provided by the deceased, often concern the material details of life, here and in the Great Beyond.
Although the notion of spiritual teaching does exist in Spiritualism, it’s essential in Channeling. Channelers don’t communicate with the dead to find out if life after death is possible, since for them it’s a given fact.
No, they’re not looking for proof of life after death. Instead, they’re interested in contacting those among us who were wise, and who are now deceased: spiritual masters, great religious dignitaries, prophets, Higher Entities, and so on.
The aim of Channeling is much more about receiving sacred religious and/or spiritual teachings than finding out what concretely happens after we die. People who practice Channeling do not, therefore, try to enter into communication with close or distant relatives, or people they knew.
Spirits who are contacted by those practicing Channeling are Archangels and
Angels, Divinities, Higher Beings and…extraterrestrials!
Aside from the fact that adepts of Channeling do not try to obtain proof of the survival of the soul after death (because they’re already persuaded it happens) and only want to ‘‘talk’’ to the Higher Spirits, not to their parents, relatives or friends, another fundamental difference exists between Spiritualism and Channeling that’s
In Spritualism, it rarely happens that a spiritual entity asks to communicate with a living being. Although they may answer willingly, in most instances it’s the person who does the asking, seeking news about their recently departed loved one. Or they may have experienced strange manifestations like banging on the walls, the sound of footsteps objects that move by themselves, or even the sight of ghosts.
In Channeling, almost the exact opposite is true. It’s often a disincarnated spirit or celestial being who contacts a human being, in order to transmit a message, something that concerns them alone, a group of people, or humanity as a whole.
The Goals of the Spirits
As I explained earlier, the main goal of Channeling is to transmit a spiritual message, or some higher spiritual teaching, that leads to a new
understanding, and helps us evolve. As far as Spiritualism is concerned, practitioners are usually content to ask simple material questions that can be very down-to-earth, for example where to find a treasure hidden by the deceased when alive, investment advice, etc.
