I'm hard at work editing a new adult novel titled, Enchantment and getting ready for the release of my contemporary women's fiction book At the Edge and my teen, romance (expanded edition) No Reins. Publisher – http://eternalpress.biz
Since Imbolc is just around the corner I thought I would share with you the first draft of my teen romance, “Enchantment".
In this young adult romance novel Avril is one of eight teenage girls who meet almost every Sunday to be schooled in white witchcraft-Earth religion as part of their transition from childhood into maidenhood.
It’s been forty six-days since Avril attended the School of Magick in the Victorian mansion. Now, returning Avril and her friends have the opportunity to meet prospective suitors.
Corrina believes George would choose her. Lilith definitely disagrees, and will do anything to capture his heart - even if it means dabbling in the black arts.
I present to you the first chapter -
DAWNING TIME FEBRUARY 2
Avril woke before dawn. Bundled in layers of warm clothing under her winter hooded black cape, moving quickly the frosty wind was at her back. The path she took was nature at its finest, a wonderful scenic area with wooded hills, forest, valleys, peaceful farm fields and winding country roads. Scanning the hills and fields, she spotted several wolves running across the snowy landscape before disappearing from her view into the forest. She smiled to herself knowing she was lucky to catch a glimpse of the beautiful animals.
Her heart pounded with anticipation at what was to come. The short, dark, cold snow and icy winds of winter had made it impossible to visit the Coven’s Victorian mansion. She thought to herself, what a great place to grow up. A day spent at the Victorian mansion was never a waste of time. It was a place where neighbors, family, friends and allies have magical powers to cast spells, predict, and utter incantations to clear the madness from their minds. It is a magical home where she had been taught to tap into the Higher Forces of Nature, apply psychic abilities to work through any problems, and to live a contented life as an individual. Her introduction into the craft was experienced with youthful abandonment. Growing up in the community of wise women taught her the power of rhythmical spells for desire, incantations to achieve goals and to read the signs in nature to predict. To promote growth, she learned to push her mind past time and space to connect with spirit, to accept the past, live today and dream for tomorrow. She had become super sensitive to both the seen and the unseen world while harming none, oppressing none and ever seeking balance and harmony.
The forty-three days away from her mentors, family and sister-friends during winter break had weighed heavily within. Forced by the elements to stay indoors, she looked forward to seeing all again today at the Imbloc celebrations. The great Celtic Sabbat to cast off the darkness. The Fire Festival would ensure abundant light and energy. The Sun is waxing and daylight is growing longer. Rites would be done to banish the darkness from the coven’s lives and encourage the return of life. It was a time to cleanse, purify and be open to new possibilities, mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically.
Avril was close enough for a good view of the large Victorian mansion. The Mystery School for Girls was a beautiful place inside with a very large farm style kitchen, ample dining area, and the unusually spacious living area and den. The floorboards were made from hardwood with old-fashioned twelve foot ceilings and fireplaces to keep home and people warm from the severe cold in almost every room. At the back of the mansion were situated the cozy bed chambers. The second floor rooms were the learning areas for children aged five to eleven. The attic, on the third floor, had two classrooms for students aged twelve to eighteen.
Anxious to put the cold winter behind, Avril rushed to join with family and friends who had already arrived to banish the dark days.
Three large bonfires burned bright. The flames rose straight up in an uneven flow. About three hundred women and children of all ages had arrived to celebrate the Fire Festival. Avril stepped on to the property. The moment she saw her best sister-friend, Hailey, dressed in a midnight blue winter hooded cloak standing by a large, twisted stump her heart skipped a beat in joy. Seconds later, she bounded through the snow to greet her. “Merry Meet Hailey,” she called out moving toward her.
“Merry Meet my friend, she said as they stretched their arms round each other’s upper body and pulled one another closer in a tender embrace. Avril thought of the times, since age five, when they came together, stood firm empowered by love and respect, only to separate to experience others, to join again to share. Their relationship was built on trust by compromising and communicating. Avril was proud of their strong commitment to honor, love and cherished their attachment.
Hailey’s golden brown hair flew against the wind. Her deep green eyes dazzled. She gave Avril a blinding smile. “I’m so happy we are together again,” she said, her voice full of excitement.
“I missed you too,” she answered, wiggling for freedom. “It’s nice to be back.”
“Are you hungry? Did you want to grab some scrambled eggs?”
Avril glanced toward the crowd enjoying breakfast in the eating area and said, “Sure.”
Hailey reached out and took Avril’s hand. As they wandered about the crowd Avril scanned the grounds. Candles of every shape and color burned. The bright flames swayed with the wind. Conversation filled with joy and laughter could be heard as families gathered together. The two moved through females, young, mature and old, who ate and drank the feast of milk products offered.
Hailey pointed to an Elder woman dressed black, long skirt, cape with the hood up and her young helper wearing ceremonial garb. Avril glanced over to see the two traveling to each of the younger coven members. The young helper looked frantic as she tried to keep up and hold a large scroll steady for the Elder to view. The two quickened their steps toward Hailey and Avril.
“Merry We Meet young ladies, will you be attending Sunday session when the School of Magic resumes?” The Elder quickly asked.
“Yes,” enthusiastically, they answered.
The young helper checked off their names from the list on the scroll.
“On February six report to the attic, to Priestess Angelica. And Avril don’t be tardy,” she said, her eyes on her.
The Elder wished them a good day. She simply gestured to her young helper, and then scurried away into the crowd.
“I’m happy that the new year will be spent together advancing our craft,” Hailey beamed
Avril smiled with approval. “Me too!”
The wind howled as they walked past a bonfire. The timber loudly crackled as it was devoured by the red hot flames. To get rid of the past and look to the future, Yule decorations were being burned.
“Oh, there you are Avril! Come here, the High Priestess Ceasera is about to perform the annual weather forecasting ritual,” her Grandmother dressed in a full length black winter cloak said, her eyes on her.
Avril rushed to her grandmother’s side. Hailey followed close behind.
Avril shifted her boots in the snow, listening to the conversation between her grandmother and Hailey’s with her eyes on the brown candle’s wicks beautiful golden light that streamed outward from each and every window in the Victorian mansion.
“It warmed my heart to witness so many of the Elders after sunset join to light every lamp and candle within the dwelling in honor of the Sun’s re-birth,” Avril’s grandmother said staring at the flickering flames through the small plates of glass.
“It was nearly dawn by the time all the brown colored candles were carried through each room to banish darkness and encourage the light - to attract the good and to keep the negative at bay,” Hailey’s grandmother said. She automatically, shifted her weight, maneuvering her walking stick.
“I’m pleased the candles that were left to burn in the windows to ensure the coven members a safe return are still burning.” Avril’s grandmother said, adjusting the wool scarf around her neck. She focused on the sea of black moving about here and there, and said, “What a wonderful turnout for the annual weather forecasting ritual. The groundhog shadow seeking ceremony gives a glimmer of hope for an early spring.”
“According to an ancient British weather superstition, it is the hedgehog that emerges at Imbloc to foretell if winter is over,” Hailey’s grandmother remarked. “When it emerges from its burrow in mid-winter and sees its shadow because the sun is shining, it will go back in and the winter will be prolonged by another six weeks. If the weather is bad, it will remain outside, but if it is fine, the groundhog will reach the optimistic conclusion that winter cannot last and it will return to its burrow.”
“The groundhog forecasts over many generations have had a ninety percent accuracy rate,” Avril’s grandmother reminded her.
“The whole event is an excuse to see family and friends and celebrate that winter is half over,” she chuckled.
The wind rose. The bare branches creaked. Avril closed her eyes turning up her face to the sun and took a moment in silence to absorb the heat from the fire flames.
When she opened her eyes she saw the coven had begun to position themselves around the three bonfires in a perfect circle. Females were squeezed tightly together, close enough to see, while row upon row stood impacted behind them. All faced inward toward the High Priestess Ceaserea in a floor length black over-cape with the hood pulled loosely about her creased face, standing center to say farewell to the final days and nights of the cold, icy winter.
All went silent. Instinctively, Avril’s attention was drawn to the High Priestess. Although there was silver in her long hair and her skin wrinkled, she radiated power. She stood before a wooden altar draped in a clean white cloth. White petals had been sprinkled on the surface. Averill caught the scent of rosemary incense, to remind all of their purpose and spiritual journey, to cleanse the aura and attract confidence and clarity, was lit. Snow melted in a large gold chalice. The sun reflected from the blade of a sword and gold pentacle. A large orange candle stood center for creativity and excellent imagination and relates to emotions in relationships. Averill was sure the candle would be anointed with rosemary oil. The wick of the large orange candle on the altar burned straight upward with a blue flame, indicating there were Spirits present. Evergreen and willow boughs, the traditional plants of Imbloc, rested at the base. The broom which had been used last eve to sweep the negativity from each room, then outdoors, rested at the side.
Ceaserea slowly raised her head and clasped her hands in front of her. Her voice trumpeted through the air. “We gather today to banish winter and welcome the first stirrings of spring, to say farewell to the cold and dark and greet the birth of every living thing. Today’s focus is to open our minds, souls, hearts and bodies to the changing season; to connect with energy of the waxing solar year. Daylight hours are gradually lengthening. Earth is now touched by the growing heat from the Sun. There is hope that the darkness will give birth to the light.” Her voice echoed outward as she announced, “Imbloc the Festival of Lights, is the beginning of light from the Sun, until fully born again at Beltane in May. Particular attention is paid to the state of the weather to give a glimmer of hope of an early spring.”
Ceaserea walked to the front of the altar and sat back and relaxed on a handcrafted wooden rocking chair. The coven waited for a groundhog to pop out of its burrow and predict the end of winter.
A few minutes after the sun rose in the eastern sky the groundhog managed to squirm out of the burrow and saw his shadow on the snow.
The High Priestess shook with slight movement standing up very straight and announced, “The groundhog’s furry forecaster predicts six more weeks of winter.”
Cheers greeted the prediction. The frozen earth pulsated as the conveners adjourned to take part in the traditions of Imbloc. Avril looked around at her extended family that had great importance in her life smiling to herself. She lived with the security of knowledge that she belonged. She could reach out at any time and receive compassion and understanding. She lived with the experience of a supportive community. Their experiences together are not without traumas or drama, but each made life easier, not just because they lessened the burdens, but each one taught her to love.

The Cross of Light
The Cross of Light is very effective exercise for strengthening the aura and focusing energy. It is traditionally performed prior to all ritual work, particularly the tracing of a magic circle.
1. Stand facing east and imagine a brilliant white light above you. Raise your left hand above your head and draw the light down to your forehead, saying:
"Thine, O Lady and Lord..."
2. Feel the light fill your head and draw it down in a line through your body toward your feet, saying:
"Is the Kingdom..."
3. Feel the light fill your body and follow your hand as you bring it to your shoulder, saying:
4. Draw the line of light straight across to your left shoulder, saying:
"And the Glory..."
5. Now cup your hands to your heart, feeling the great cross of light radiating through you, and say:
Forever. Blessed it Be."
To raise elemental energy for magical workings.
Invocation of the Elements
Air, Fire, Water, Earth
Elements of Astral birth,
I call you now; attend to me!
In the circle, rightly cast,
Safe from psychic curse or blast,
I call you now; attend to me!
From cave and desert, sea and hill,
By wand, blade, cup and pentacle,
I call you now; attend to me!
This is my will, so mote it be!
The Blessing Chant can be said at the beginning of any type of ritual as a general Invocation.
The Blessing Chant
May the powers of The One,
the source of all creation;
all-pervasive, omnipotent, eternal;
may the Goddess,
the Lady of the Moon;
and the God,
Horned Hunter of the Sun;
may the powers of the Spirits of the Stones,
rulers of the elemental realms;
may the powers of the stars above and the earth below,
bless this place, and this time, and who I am with you.
Invocation - you are kindly inviting the higher powers to come forth, join and bless you at anytime and anywhere.
"I want to be happy, but I won't be happy till I make you happy too." So goes the old song by Youmans and Caesar, written for the 1925 musical No, No, Nanette.
What a marvellous sentiment it expresses. Wouldn't the world be such a better place if only more of us were willing to take pleasure in finding out what might please those around us and then doing our best to supply this?
Making someone else happy this week really will make you happy too!

William Shakespeare, the Bard of Avon and preeminent writer of the English language, was said to have been born (and died!) on this day. The witty Taurus wrote 154 sonnets and 38 plays - many with mystical elements (ghosts, soothsayers, witches and fairies)
A Midsummer Night's Dream is a play by William Shakespeare. It is believed that it was written between 1590 and 1596. It portrays the events surrounding the marriage
of the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and Hippolyta. These include the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur actors, who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. The play, categorized as a comedy, is one of Shakespeare's most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world.

Beltane Chant (by Rudyard Kipling):
O do not tell the priests of our arts,
for they would call it sin!
We will be in the woods all night
A-conjuring conjuring summer in.
And we bring you good news by word of mouth.
For women, cattle, and corn:
The sun is coming up from the south,
By oak and ash, and thorn!
(Continue chanting 'by oak and ash and thorn')
The first day of May marks a festival of great importance for all those who follow the Pagan way. We call this day 'Beltane' which means 'Fire of God,' the Sun, renews his gift of Need-Fire to the Earth Mother. The spark of life has once again been delivered.
The Celtic May festival, to celebrate the arrival of summer; from Old Gaelic words meaning blaze-kindling. In Druidic times, two fires were lit, and the tribes cattle driven between them, in a purificatory rite. In later times, young men would leap over fires in tests or displays of energy and virility.
On April 30th in some areas, fires burn from dusk till dawn. Beltane or May Day at dawn wash your face with dew for a good complextion and good luck throughout the year.

Wiccan Spells and Witchcraft
Many gathered last week to celebrate the verbal equinox at Stonehenge. Thought to be created between 3000 and 2500 B.C.E., Stonehenge is getting something of a makeover. This year will see the closure of of the A344, the road alongside monument. The £27 million pound project will add a visitor center, remove a parking lot, “restore the dignity” of the stones’ setting and “minimize the intrusion of the modern world,” according to English Heritage.
Can’t argue with that, though the plan to restore the site to more of its original naturalistic state does not go quite as far as hoped. A plan for all major roads to be diverted via tunnels has been scrapped, for instance.
Thanks to radiocarbon dating, archaeologists and historians have been able to figure out that, around 3000 B.C.E., the huge circular ditch that now surrounds the stones was dug and a number of bluestones erected. It was around 2600 B.C.E. that the sarsens, the giant stones, were erected and massive rock lintels placed atop them. Five trilithons (with three stones, a horizontal one capping two verticals slabs) were raised. All these were aligned such that the setting midwinter sun and the rising midsummer sun shine through
the very middle of the site and down through the road leading up to it.
What purpose the stones and site served has been the subject of constant speculation since ancient times:
1) Back in the twelfth century, Geoffrey of Monmouth said that no one less than the legendary wizard Merlin had built Stonehenge as a burial place for knights slain in fighting the Saxons.
2) ) Most recently, University College London professor Mark Parker Pearson has suggested that Stonehenge was in essence a celebration site that unified Britain. While originally a burial site, Pearson says that, just as today, people gathered at the massive stones to celebrate the solstices in what was like “Glastonbury festival and a motorway building scheme at the same time.”
Some 80,000 bones from cattle from all over Britain have been found near the site; Pearson suggests that Stonehenge was a “monument that brought ancient Britain together,” at a time that was the only one “in prehistory in which ‘the people of Britain were unified’ and all engaged in a ‘common cultural activity.’”
3) Professor Tim Darvill of Bournemouth University instead suggests that Stonehenge was a “place for the living” where people came to seek cures, in the manner of pilgrims visiting the shrine of our Lady of Lourdes.
4) Scientists have some other ideas. Based on the alignment of the stones, Stonehenge was a sort of observatory, where astronomical calculations could be made to predict phenomena like lunar eclipses.
5) Anthony Perks of the University of British Columbia’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has suggested that the whole circular monument is meant to be a fertility symbol, in the shape of the femalesexual organ (pdf) in honor of some sort of prehistoric mother goddess.
6) A 2011 study by an international team of archaeologists suggested that, long before the sarsens were erected, the pits surrounding Stonehenge had been used for sun worship, another argument for it being a sacred site.
7) Druids have often been associated with Stonehenge (including with building it). While some say Stonehenge existed before Druidism came into being, others argue that the Druids predate Stonehenge by a good millennium and that the connection between them and the huge stone circle “may be fairly recent.”
An architect, John Webb, dispensed with the idea that those indigenous to Britain built Stonehenge. The huge structure was rather built by the Romans as a temple to a sky-god Coelus.
9) Others suggest that it wasn’t the Romans but the Danes who built Stonehenge — and others take the notion of someone “foreign” building Stonehengea bit further and suggest that aliens built it.
10) Geologists have suggested that Stonehenge’s builders were neither human nor alien but the forces of nature itself and that glaciers “snatched” the huge stones from the Preseli Hills and deposited them on Salisbury Plain. Never underestimate the power of mother nature?

Spring begins with the vernal equinox at 7:02 A.M. (EDT) on March 20, 2013 in the Northern Hemisphere. Ah, spring! This season brings increasing daylight, warming temperatures, and the rebirth of flora and fauna.
Spring arrives this week, opening up a world of new possibilities. The Sun entering Aries on Wednesday heralds the Vernal Equinox, followed by Venus entering Aries on Thursday. These fiery influences team up with Mars and Uranus in Aries to ignite your passion, motivation and individuality, which will likely influence your love
Equinox Means "Equal Night"
Translated literally equinox, means "equal night." Because the Sun is positioned above the equator, day and night are about equal in length all over the world during the equinoxes. A second equinox occurs each year on Sept. 22 or 23; in 2013, it will be on Sept. 22 at 4:44 P.M. EDT. This date will mark the autumnal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the vernal equinox in the Southern (vernal denotes "spring").
Season of Solstice Work:
Solstice - either of the two points in the ecliptic (the first points of the sign Cancer and Capricorn respectively) at which the sun is furthest from the equator and consequently appears to pause and turn in course: the time when the sun reaches these two points in its orbit, about 21st June and about 21st December.
Around December 21, the Sun enters Capricorn and witches celebrate the Winter Solstice.
In the Northern Hemisphere the Winter Solstice around December 21, marks the beginning of winter and occurs when the North Pole is tilted away from the sun. The word Solstice literally means "standing still." At the Winter Solstice the sun rises, stands still, for a brief moment, then quickly dwindles to disappear beneath the horizon.
The Winter Solstice marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year. Yule, one of the four lesser Sabbats, takes place each year around December 25. Legend of Santa Claus-Santa is the Holly King, the sleigh is the Solar Chariot, the eight Sabbats and the horns represent the Horn God, the North Pole symbolizes the Land of the Shadows and the dying solar year, and the gifts meant both to welcome the Oak King as the sun reborn and as a reminder of the gift of the Holly King who must depart for the Oak King to rule.
This is a great time to reflect upon the past and make plans for your future as the Sun illumines a pathway toward the achievement of your goals.
Three days before Winter Solstice - Yule:
First Quest of Mastery -
to be granted an identity Discover your roots...your idenity in this world.
If you seek to understand the whole universe, you will understand nothing at all...but seek to understand yourself, and you will come to understand the whole universe.
It can take a life time to understand who you are and your purpose in life.
Live your outer life as a leader, while maintaining the heart and conscience of a Pagan.
The Eve of Winter Solstice - A Midwinter's Dream:
The main ancient formulae guidelines in magic are followed: An herb, a flower and a tree make three.
Herb - sacred to God Form or Spirit Guide being called, Flower - mistletoe, Tree - oak leaf or bark
Incense Dragon's Blood - the breath of the Dragon - burn incense for good psychic atmosphere to be felt.
On the eve of the shortest day call upon your God Form or Spirit Guide to make their will known (speak to your higher power ).
Trust the road you take is a guided one. Just because your God Form or Spirit Guide insn't here in body doesn't mean their love isn't with you.
To call forth Elders from the Deep, one need only to pass into sleep with palms of both hands upon the cheek.
Pose your question. ASK: "Please tell me how to continue; in what direction
shall I search, and for what end?"
Search the depths of the inner world. Leave not a single dream darkened -
until you know beyond doubt who you are, and why you are here; search out your identy...your own destiny.
Remember that dreams are the true interpreters of our desires. To say 'it is
only a dream' is a foolish thing.
Keep moving forward until your dreams come true. Of course, you’ll encounter
obstacles along the way, but you should try to see them as tests of your will and motivation, rather than as setbacks. Seeing obstacles as stepping-stones to success, rather than as barriers, will help you evolve to ever-higher states of awareness.
Morning of Winter Solstice - Yule
At dawn on the Shortest Day light a small Yule fire of oak, and then triumpt rebirth with bells and boughs of everygreen. Hold a chalice filled with promagrant juice and toast the morning sun.
Trust your intial respomse. Follow your intuitions.
