A History Of Friday The 13th
In England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland a succession of Witchcraft Acts have governed witchcraft and provided penalties for its practice, or (in later years) for pretending to practice it.
June 1st - Witchcraft Act of 1563 takes effect in England.
Until the year of 1951, English laws were strictly prohibiting witchcraft and other similar practices like acts of magic, or consulting with the spirit world. The most important act in the history of England’s witchcraft laws and penalty is without a doubt, the one that came into action on the 1st of June 1563. So, on this day all Wicca and Paganism followers mark the beginning of a long history of accusations and penalties for all of those found guilty of witchcraft and spiritualism in the UK.
There has never been a single law in the U.S prohibiting acts of witchcraft. In 1692, when the Salem witch trials took place, the United States were still a part of the British colonies.
Witchcraft Act 1542
Religious tensions in England during the 16th and 17th centuries resulted in the introduction of serious penalties for witchcraft. Henry VIII's Act of 1542 (33 Hen. VIII c. 8) was the first to define witchcraft as a felony, a crime punishable by death and the forfeiture of the convicted felon's goods and chattels. It was forbidden to:
... use devise practise or exercise, or cause to be devysed [sic] practised or exercised, any Invovacons or cojuracons [sic] of Sprites witchecraftes enchauntementes or sorceries to thentent [sic?] to fynde [sic] money or treasure or to waste consume or destroy any persone [sic] in his bodie membres, or to pvoke [provoke] any persone to unlawfull love, or for any other unlawfull intente or purpose ... or for dispite of Cryste, or for lucre of money, dygge up or pull downe any Crosse or Crosses or by such Invovacons or cojuracons of Sprites witchecraftes enchauntementes [sic] or sorceries or any of them take upon them to tell or declare where goodes stollen [sic?] or lost shall become ...
The Act also removed a right known as benefit of clergy from those convicted of witchcraft, a legal device that spared anyone from hanging who was able to read a passage from the Bible. This statute was repealed by Henry's son, Edward VI, in 1547.

Scottish Witchcraft Act 1563
Under the Scottish Witchcraft Act 1563 both the practice of witchcraft and consulting with witches were capital offences. This Act stayed on Scottish statute books until repealed as a result of a House of Lords amendment to the bill for the post-union Witchcraft Act 1735.

Woman Says A Ghost is Haunting Her Pick-Up Truck
A beauty school student from Sacramento says she had to sell her car because it was being haunted by the spirit of her dead boyfriend.
Deanna Stinson says she had a series on spine-chilling experiences in her pick up truck which started days after her boyfriend Alex's unexpected death.
When a paranormal investigator checked the car, he recorded what the pair believe was a male voice trying to answer their questions.
Ms Stinson had been dating Alex for only a month in 2005 when he died of a drug overdose. Three days later she claims she had the first of several supernatural encounters with the 22-year-old.
She said she was driving through Sacramento while wearing a skirt that Alex had always admired on her, when she could feel someone touching her.
'I could feel touching on my hair and on my shoulders, on my thighs, just everywhere,' she told CBS Sacramento.
'My concentration would be lost a lot of the times, but I would just pray, and then it would stop,' she added.
On a couple of occasions the student became convinced she could see Alex in the rear view mirror and even in the passenger seat next to her.
In one encounter, she claimed that he appeared as a ghost in the back seat and began to give her a shoulder massage.
'I was starting to get freaked out and I don't like to be touched by ghostly hands, especially when I am driving,' she told the Knight Talk Radio website.
Ms Stinson says she had no choice but to get rid of the pick up truck but when the feeling that she was being haunted lingered, she called in a paranormal investigator.
Paul Dale Roberts, who has written several books about supernatural activity, used electronic equipment to test the truck.
The 59-year-old, who married Ms Stinson earlier this month, asked the spirit of Alex a series of questions and, when he played back the recording a muffled male voice could be heard.
'He’s definitely probably not attached to his car, but he’s attached to Deanna,' Mr Roberts said.
Ms Stinson says that although she has still felt the presence of Alex in her new car, she is happy for him to remain as long as he doesn't interfere with her driving.

Does Remodeling Stir up Spirits?
By Kelly Roncace
Just as dust lies on the floor of a long-abandoned house, the energy of those who once lived in that house could be absorbed into the building’s walls.
This energy can be awakened by disturbances such as new owners who begin remodeling and changing what the spirits still think of as their home. The paranormal field is filled with stories of hauntings that come about suddenly when home or business owners begin to demolish, construct or change the layout of a structure.
In April, a wrecking crew began tearing down the old French Worsted Co. building in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
The construction crew — made up of big, tough, rugged fellas — got so spooked on that site that they refused to continue the demolition.
Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management hydrologist Sofia Kaczor said the men were legitimately frightened and “the work stopped.”
According to members of the wrecking crew and on-lookers, one of the cranes being used to demolish the building would go “haywire” every time it got close to tearing away part of the building.
Kim Baccaire, daughter of John Baccaire — the crane operator, took a photo which she said shows what looks like apparitions in a window of the building.
Another incident involved a large beam that fell and seemed to aim itself directly at the crane’s cab, missing John Baccaire by mere inches.
Kim Baccaire called on Andrew Lake, a paranormal investigator, who agreed to come to the site. He brought along two mediums to assist in the investigation.
The trio entered the building and “had a conversation with the spirits,” explaining that the deceased needed to move on because the building couldn’t be saved.
After their visit, the activity stopped and demolition continued without incident.
Doug Hogate Jr., CEO and founder of Jersey Unique Minds Paranormal Society, said in his opinion, spirits may get upset that their home is being changed.
“Imagine being at your house and someone comes in and starts tearing walls down and remodeling,” Hogate said. “They could be thinking, ‘This is my house. What are you doing to my house?’”
One investigation Hogate remembers that could have been caused by construction was at Johnson Hall in Salem.
“They said a lot of activity stirred up while they were remodeling the first floor,” he said.
JUMPS investigated the building three times and recorded the most activity on the first floor just as construction was being completed.
“That’s a prime example,” Hogate said.
There are other explanations of why remodeling could conjure up strange activity in a home, such as replacing plaster walls with more modern drywall which is a much weaker sound barrier and even exposing molds that could contain toxins which could effect a person’s perception.
But is it also possible that a spirit who has resided undetected in a certain building for hundreds of years could become more active in an effort to express his or her disapproval of the changes?
The next time you replace a window or build a partition, keep an eye out for someone who may want you to leave the room as it was.

Witch City: Places of Mystery - Paranormal Documentary
In 1626 Roger Conant and the first settlers arrived in this country with strong hopes of religious freedom. They named their new home Salem, a word related to the Hebrew word shalom and the Arabic word salaam, both meaning peace. Only 66 years later, March 1692 would mark the beginning of 14 months of shame for a parish in Salem Town, Massachusetts, then known as Salem Village. The strange, unexplained behavior of two young girls, Abigail Williams and Betty Parris, set to motion an era of hysteria that ended in the death of twenty four people accused of witchcraft. The Salem Witch Trials and persecutions only lasted fourteen months but town believers were convinced that subsequent years of struggle were retribution for the sins of their forefathers. Years of problems; famines and crop failures, the fall of the Salem shipping industry, the Great Salem Fire of 1914 and the decline of the tanning industry were all believed to be Salem's condemnation for the witch trials. Not until 1850 did public interest start to pique favorably toward the historic town. The mystery of Salem, captured in the acclaimed novels, The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne, fed on Salem's history of witchcraft and strict Puritan values. Soon popular city folklore added to mystery by laying claim to various hauntings: the House of the Seven Gables, the Old Town Hall, the Customs House, and by a vengeful ghost, Giles Corey, a man who had been pressed to death during those infamous witch trials.
In 1890, dry goods merchant Daniel Low, recognizing a good sales pitch successfully sold witch-stamped spoons as souvenirs of the "City of Witches." This began the use of witchcraft as a commodity. In 1957 the Massachusetts Legislature exonerated many of the accused Salem witches and in 2001both the accused and the convicted witches were finally cleared of all charges. This act finally allowed the townspeople of Salem to move forward Commercialism took firm hold in 1970 when the television comedy Bewitched filmed several episodes in Salem. This publicity was a giant boost to Salem's economy.
It took more than 280 years before the curse of the witch hysteria of 1692 would be lifted. The city of Salem is now known as a city of serious historical significance as well as one that doesn't take itself too seriously.
Demonstrating Salem's positive attitude; Police cars display witch logos, school teams call themselves "The Witches", and Gallows Hill, where many convicted witches were hanged is now used as a public park. In 1981 the city added an official "Haunted Happenings" celebration during the October tourist season. The yearly celebration has become a great success a thousands watch the massive fireworks display that kicks off the festivities on Halloween night. The event turned a $200,000 profit for the city in 2007. The Salem witches' story regularly brings curious visitors from all over the world, a sign that perhaps even history has finally forgiven the black deeds of 1692.
