Do Prayer Circles Work Miracles?
When people join together to pray for others, it is technically called
“intercessionary prayers.” In all cultures, including this one, it has
been known for years that groups of people wishing well for a person help them achieve a goal. Usually, intercessionary prayers are reserved for people who are quite ill, are addicted, or need money.
There have been some hard studies done about intercessory prayer, but most of them have appeared in what skeptics would call a biased publication: The Journal of Religion. A Brandeis sociologist named Wendy Cadge is a Harvard expert on this topic. She has analyzed the results of eighteen studies done about the effectiveness of prayer that were done by various organizations between 1965 and 2005.
According to an article in Brandeis University News on the web, the studies
reflected the prayers groups of several religions, including Christian, Jewish,
and Buddhist prayers.
The problems with these studies, according to Cadge, are that they were a bit “soft” and the control groups were biased. Many of them were based on what happens when a group of family members prays for a sick subject and not real control groups.
Another problem is that even when it came to conducting double blind clinical trials, it was difficult to figure out what dosage a prayer should be, how they should be offered, and if the person praying actually had to be a believer or subscriber to a certain religion for these prayers to work for him or her.
Additionally, The Sunday New York Times reported in a story by Sam Knight in 2006 that a huge study of 1,800 who were prayed over after heart bypass surgery did not result in cures. In fact, many of the patients who were aware that they were being prayed for experienced a much noticeably higher rate of complications. This study, which was funded by the John Templeton foundation and cost $2.4 million dollars, took over ten years to conduct. This study was conducted by the members of three congregations: the St. Paul’s Monastery in St. Paul; the Community of Tersian Carmelites in Worcester, and the Massachusetts and Silent Unity that is a Missouri prayer minister near Kansas City. These congregations were subdivided into more groups: those who
were told they were being prayed for, those who would receive prayers but did not know, and those that would not be prayed for at all.
The worshippers always prayed for the patients by name the night before the surgery and for the two weeks following the surgery and asked God to "grant a successful surgery with a quick, healthy recovery and no complications."
The result was that fifty-two per cent of patients in both groups suffered complications after surgery, but 50 percent of those who knew they were being prayed for went on to develop complications.
Religious and philosophical experts will always say that this study failed simply because prayer is not a self-conscious process. You know how they watched pot never boils. The same is apparently is true with prayer. It is a cosmic law.
The prayers might have made the patients that knew about it even sicker because it caused anxiety. Another theory is that “what we resist persists.” Yet another theory is that prayers have no power and that God just intervenes when he feels like it. It is not spiritually correct for us to think that we somehow control God with anything that we might attempt.
There are also no real studies that prove undeniably that the power of prayer or positive thought can affect the outcome of things. However, if you are really curious about this topic and want to investigate the Cluster Effect, which is about the effect of prayer on how water crystals form, you should watch a movie called “What the Bleep Do We Know.” Like the movie and the book “The Secret” it is all about manifesting a more positive outcome to situations.
An excellent book written about this subject is Wishing Well:
Making Your Every Wish Come True by Paul Pearsall which discusses such concepts as praying, positive thinking, accessing your higher power and willing things to happen. He calls prayer “a sixth sense suggestion” that can somehow can reach our intended beneficiary.
However, even though praying for others can result in joy, altruism, forgiveness and healing, Pearsall says that prayer can have negative results if we end up praying for the wrong thing. For instance, if we are praying that a victim of AIDS have a stronger immune system we might be, out of ignorance, praying for the wrong thing simply because it is a disease that is caused by an immune system that was too strong. If a prayer is not a delicate echo that can resound through the universe and spiritually polite in nature it is not likely to be answer; in fact we might even hex the situation by being too pushy about it.
People who object to praying to God to change the outcome of a
situation also argue with it simply because if it is God’s Will for something to happen the you should just accept it. To conduct an intercessionary prayer may in fact be a way of battling of God and objecting to his divine plan for our well being.
One of the latest trends in praying for the ill is to pray while fasting. This is an ancient technique that is being revived in contemporary church groups thanks to a book by Ronnie W. Floyd called “The Power of Prayer and Fasting.” It is the technique for getting a “wish granted” that is recommended in the Bible.
On the other side of the coin, it is even hard for skeptics to dismiss the fact that prayer can be useful. There are millions of anecdotes throughout history that tell us that this is true. At the very least, it serves to comfort the person praying if not the actual person that is being prayed over.

The Cross of Light
The Cross of Light is very effective exercise for strengthening the aura and focusing energy. It is traditionally performed prior to all ritual work, particularly the tracing of a magic circle.
1. Stand facing east and imagine a brilliant white light above you. Raise your left hand above your head and draw the light down to your forehead, saying:
"Thine, O Lady and Lord..."
2. Feel the light fill your head and draw it down in a line through your body toward your feet, saying:
"Is the Kingdom..."
3. Feel the light fill your body and follow your hand as you bring it to your shoulder, saying:
4. Draw the line of light straight across to your left shoulder, saying:
"And the Glory..."
5. Now cup your hands to your heart, feeling the great cross of light radiating through you, and say:
Forever. Blessed it Be."
To raise elemental energy for magical workings.
Invocation of the Elements
Air, Fire, Water, Earth
Elements of Astral birth,
I call you now; attend to me!
In the circle, rightly cast,
Safe from psychic curse or blast,
I call you now; attend to me!
From cave and desert, sea and hill,
By wand, blade, cup and pentacle,
I call you now; attend to me!
This is my will, so mote it be!
The Blessing Chant can be said at the beginning of any type of ritual as a general Invocation.
The Blessing Chant
May the powers of The One,
the source of all creation;
all-pervasive, omnipotent, eternal;
may the Goddess,
the Lady of the Moon;
and the God,
Horned Hunter of the Sun;
may the powers of the Spirits of the Stones,
rulers of the elemental realms;
may the powers of the stars above and the earth below,
bless this place, and this time, and who I am with you.
Invocation - you are kindly inviting the higher powers to come forth, join and bless you at anytime and anywhere.
An equinox occurs twice a year (around 20 March and 22 September), when the plane of the Earth's equator passes the centre of the Sun. At this time the tilt of the Earth's axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun. The term equinox can also be used in a broader sense, meaning the date when such a passage happens. The name "equinox" is derived from the Latin aequus (equal) and nox (night), because around the equinox, night and day are about equal length.
Vernal equinox and autumnal equinox: these classical names are direct derivatives of Latin (ver = spring and autumnus = autumn). Again, this is from a Northern Hemisphere perspective of spring and fall. Mabon, the Vernal Equinox or Equal Night is the official beginning of autumn. Annually on this date in the Northern Hemisphere, faces the Sun and receive equal amounts (12 hours each) of daylight and darkness.
Mabon, September 22, 2013 marks the second and final time (the first was March 21st) each year that day and night are of equal in length. The autumn day's grow shorter, the nights longer. Now, is the time when the Earth prepares for the departure of the sun's abundant light, warmth and growth. The planet enters the time when the darkness takes over the light. Tuning into the seasonal activities, the wheel of life connects one with the universal
rhythm. Life is continuously changing, evolving, dieing, and being re-born. Summer is fading. In the orchards apples dangle, red, gold and ripen. Harvesting the vegetables begins, with tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, beans, potatoes, corn and all the rest pouring from the garden. We reap what we have sown.

Tara’s View: Don’t Miss Your Luck on Friday the 13th!
Friday the 13th can be a very auspicious day, and you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to cross paths with success. That’s because on this day the
astral currents are particularly active.
In the world of clairvoyance, Friday the 13th is a very beneficial day, charged with positive vibrations. With that in mind, I’m going to reveal a very simple and effective procedure that will accelerate the progress you make towards attaining the life of your dreams.
Time is too short to stifle your desires. Don’t think small, think big and eliminate your limitations. Doing big things doesn’t require any more energy or time than restraining yourself from doing ordinary things. Think big and big things will happen to you. Think small, and your life will stagnate.
Predictions made during this period are highly charged with the positive energy of Luck, and rarely contain bad news. In contrast to some traditions, which claim Friday the 13th is negative, the predictions I make on this special day are always filled with good tidings in the areas of money, Love, Luck and health.
A Great Concentration of Astral Energy
There are always strong concentrations of astral energy in the Higher Vibratory Spheres on Friday the 13th. These periods trigger huge events, and it’s up to you to profit from them by adopting the right attitude.
You should start generating positive thoughts, especially about a problem you’re preoccupied with, a few days beforehand, whether it concerns Love, money, health, Luck, or your career.
To do, that isolate yourself in a quiet place for 30 to 60 minutes, somewhere you know you won’t be disturbed. Shut your phone off, and don’t make any appointments for the hour or two before and after you practice. Make sure you’re protected from prying eyes. If you practice during the day, try to do it when the sun is at its highest point, or close to it. If you can feel the sun’s rays and heat on your skin, all the better.
Ceremony For Day Or Night
You could also practice around midnight, but you should stop when the clock reaches the midnight hour. That means you should start around 23:00 hrs, a time when the nocturnal energy is most favorable.
Wear loose-fitting clothing you feel comfortable in. Be sure not to constrict your stomach so you can breathe properly.
Try to perform the ceremony at least three hours after you eat, and don’t drink any alcohol.
Get as comfortable as you can, either sitting down or stretched out on your back (which is probably best if you practice at night).
Don’t worry if you fall asleep. Slipping into sleep just means you’ll get a good night’s reparative rest.
Generating Positive Ideas
It’s best to be physically and mentally relaxed when you begin the ceremony, free of stress at least for the moment. Otherwise, actually performing the ceremony will relax you.
Make sure there’s no tension in your back, arms, shoulders and legs. Close your eyes.
Concentrate on your problem, the one that’s been preoccupying you most
lately. As soon as you start thinking about it, you’re going to tense up.
That’s normal, especially if it’s been preventing you from leading the life you want. As long as it’s not resolved, it will create a mental block that will prevent you from evolving.
Visualize all the disadvantages the problem brings you. Don’t be afraid to visualize them, because they’ll be powerless during the favorable periods around Friday the 13th, which last for about 2 weeks.
Even if thinking about the problem makes you uncomfortable, you must go through this phase. If you keep on denying it or running away from it, you’ll end up a loser in the story of your life.
Become The Master of Your Problem
I’ll say it again: even if your problem is a huge hindrance in your daily life, don’t be afraid to visualize it. It won’t have any power over you during these favorable periods, especially if you perform the ceremony of dissolution and transformation described below.
First examine all the negative aspects of the problem, then invoke the Higher Forces and ask them to help you.
Visualize the Higher Forces as white and/or golden waves descending from above, washing away all the negativity connected to your problem. The negative gray or black currents in you are gradually dissolved by the Positive Universal Energy of Light.
I recommend doing this exercise 4 days in a row during the 2 weeks surrounding Friday the 13th. Practice it for 15 minutes the first day, and increase the time by 5 minutes on each successive day. What you need to do is resolutely concentrate on finding a solution to your problem, and visualize it happening.
Friday the 13th: Vibratory Housecleaning
The astral vibrations are at their highest concentration on Friday the 13th. Visualize your problem as dark energy, and then see it consumed by the white and golden rays descending from above, until its vibrations disappear altogether. Then work on dissolving your problem on a material level.
For that to happen, you’ll need to adopt the right behavior, and start putting it into practice right after you complete the ceremony (or the next morning if you do it at night).
Solving your problem on a vibratory level and then emitting negative thoughts about it later on won’t make it disappear.
Starting on or around Friday the 13th, and right up to the end of the month at midnight, you’ll need to emit as many positive thoughts as possible about resolving your problem and dematerializing it in your day-to-day life.
The Ritual I just described is very effective, and will yield excellent results if you do it regularly, whenever Friday the 13th comes around.

The New Moon in Virgo will be a breath of fresh air that's charged with powerful backing from Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto.
The New Moon brings fresh opportunities and an expansion of present prosperity and luck. Your chosen course of action for future accomplishments become increasingly bright and clear. Good forces end disagreements. Positive action you take brings positive results.
When the Moon is new, appearing as a crescent in the sky with its curve to the right, light a silver or white candle. Place a hand-mirror in front of the candle and dap the four corners of the mirror with vinegar. Stand outside and reflect the new moon in the mirror, or hold the mirror up to reflect the new moon in the mirror or hold the mirror up to reflect the flame. Then say:
"New Moon, growing moon, make (person's name) realize soon, Harm sent and misery cursed, is returned and being reversed."
The harm this person has caused you will increasingly return to them while the new moon grows to full moon.
*** Most Witches cast good spells, but it may be right to cast a spell on one who needs to be checked for continually doing wrong. You can turn your magic around to counteract one who wishes to do harm.
Taken from: Gillian Kempt - Good Witch Bad Witch - Sweet Spells and Dark Charms
The New Moon on August 6, in Leo suggests that you open your mind in a new perspectives involving education or travel interests. The prospect of a change of scenery could lift your spirits and bring out the adventure in your soul!
"A great part of genuine witchcraft is moon magic, derived from the age-old lore of moon worship."
The time has come to summon the Higher Forces to intervene, and bring you the Luck and happiness you deserve. Take the necessary time for reflection, and act calmly to bypass the difficulties around you. You have more control than you think in what seems to be a tricky situation.
1. Sit before the new moon with a long lit white candle and say:
SHYLY NOW AND IN REVERENCE,
IN YOUR CRESENT SHAPE,
I HONOUR AND BLESS YOU.
HELP ME NOW TO UNDERSTAND THOSE THINGS THAT I HOLD WITHIN
AND SHARE WITH YOU.
LET YOUR GENTLE LIGHT REVEAL THE KNOWLEDGE YOU HAVE
SO THAT IN THE COMING DAYS
I MAY KNOW THE BEST WAY TO ACT.
Spend some time meditating try to understand what your motives are to those actions that you normally take.
2. New Moon Incantation - to induce prophetic dream - thrice recited
ALL HAIL, NEW MOON, ALL HAIL THEE,
I PRITHEE, GOOD MOON, REVEAL TO ME,
THIS NIGHT WHO SHALL MY TRUE LOVE BE.
Smile you should see some very unexpected changes taking place in your
life in the coming weeks.
Spellcraft that pertains to beginnings is best carried out when the moon is new. This is the appropriate lunar phase during which to create magicakal tools, start new project, and cast spells and perform rituals involving such things as birth virginity, new ideas wish magic, the hunt, and bringing something into being.
The turning of silver coins in one's pocket to increase wealth is an old act of magick traditionally performed during a new moon.
According to ancient occult tradition of England, the third day immediately following a new moon is "an inauspicious day for most undertakings. Also, beware of new moons falling on a Saturdays or Sundays, for these are said to be followed by bad luck and foul weather. Old lunar lore from Pagan Britain states that pointing a finger at the new moon invites bad luck into your life. Interestingly, this belief eventually found its way into the realm of Christian superstition, where it held that pointing at the moon nine times kept a person from going to heaven. It is doubtful that the number nine was chosen for it superstition by mere chance as it has always been regarded as the most magickal of all numbers by Witches, magicians, and those who dabble in the occult.
The number nine has been called the "number of perfection." The number nine, being the result of the number three -a number linked to the Triple Goddess, the Holy Trinity, moon magick, pyramid power and the triangle - multiplied by itself is said to be the most sacred and magickal of all numbers. Numerologists also add occult significance to the number nine is multiplied by, the digits of the resulting number will always add up to nine.

"I want to be happy, but I won't be happy till I make you happy too." So goes the old song by Youmans and Caesar, written for the 1925 musical No, No, Nanette.
What a marvellous sentiment it expresses. Wouldn't the world be such a better place if only more of us were willing to take pleasure in finding out what might please those around us and then doing our best to supply this?
Making someone else happy this week really will make you happy too!

FAE BOOKS - Publicist, Blogger, Reviewing Team
@FaeBooks Wishing you the joys of spring!
At last! On the Edge, originally published by Club Lighthouse Publishing in May 2010 has been completely revised. Now titled "AT THE EDGE."
This week I posted an exclusive excerpt for my readers to get glimpse of the YA, magic realism, paranormal book. I'm leaving this excerpt up for only a few days, and then will be taking the read down. I'm excited to search for aYA book publisher to discover the best home for the new and improved story.
About the Book "AT THE EDGE," - Real people developing relationships; while Carm is struggling to pick up the pieces after the death of her husband.
Two Quick Questions - 1. How important is it to you to create likeable characters?
I portray the characters inner characteristics and emotions as they struggle with issues of their own. The characters are realistic that the readers will believe. Tough and practical Paige takes command; Roxy under a watchful eye intimidates; always helpful Lizzy goes with the flow and Carm is consumed with sorrow and mental anguish. Gretchen, a witch is a welcome relief from life's pressures. To add support and conflict to the story are Thomas a friend everyone wants to deserve and Philip is certainly not safe to trust.
2. What do you most hope that readers will take away from the book?
In this book I provide a unique insight into the drug world and mysticism – addiction and the belief that direct knowledge of ultimate reality is attainable through intuition and the unseen world. I hope the reader will begin to believe if you change your choices while guided by Spirit you can change your life for the better.
